New Fall-Winter Collection
New Fall-Winter Collection
I’ve randomly been collecting things since I was very young. I still remember when my great grandmother passed away and we went over to her house and I was I don’t know maybe six. I got to look through all of her things and I remember she had this collection of antique aprons and I just was so connected with all of them. I instantly wanted the entire collection but I was only allowed to choose two or three. And that’s where the love of collecting started for me.
I’ve had so many collections of things throughout the years. Rocks, seashells, antique dinnerware, glassware, bar aware, antique toys, and the list goes on and on. Since I started practicing Feng Shui, my relationship to some of my collections changed and I took on new insights on how to collect without overwhelming my home with things I truly didn't have space for. Here are a few of my top tips for using Feng Shui principles when you're starting or adding to your collections.
Although I’ve clearly collected a lot of different things throughout my life I’ve learned that not all collections are forever. I’ve learned that when a collection no longer serves a purpose or brings me joy it’s time to find another home. Some good indicators of whether a collection is still 'for you' or not may feel something like this. When you look at your collection, it no longer pulls at your heart strings or brings you joy. Or, Items you used to display proudly are now stuffed in boxes that occupy your basement, attic or garage.
Just because you love one or two items doesn’t mean you need a collection of it. I have certain things that I only have one or two of but I have gone through times in my life where I wanted to have a lot of that one thing. Collecting too much of one thing often symbolizes lack or scarcity or it may symbolize holding on to certain traumas that have occurred in your life. If you aren't seriously in love with your entire collection. It's best to pair things down and only hold onto things that truly make you feel happy.
Keeping your collections locked away violates the Universal Law of Use. Meaning that, if you aren't willing to find a space to display it or, it isn't useful to your life in some way. Keeping it may cause congestion in your home and in your physical body. If you have items that you love but aren't respecting with a space in your home. It's time to think about if you can pass it onto someone who is able to enjoy it in all it's beauty.
