New Fall-Winter Collection
New Fall-Winter Collection
To determine the best colors for a room, home-stagers should ask: what is the primary mood that people should be in when they enter a room? Every room has a dominant mood that should dominate the people in it. For instance, bedrooms are sanctuaries where people go to rest, so the colors should be relaxing. While, living rooms are for play and conversations, so colors should be stimulating. Basically, rooms should be painted in colors that match their desired mood.
Here is a short primer on how to use colors when staging a home.
This begins with how the front door or entryway is painted. One of the best ways to do this is by using bright red on the front door. That’s because red is attention-grabbing and forces people to stop and look a second time. However, bright-red might be too strong or may not work with the rest of a home's exterior design. An alternative to bright-red is burgundy or brick red.
Other colors that lack the intensity of bright-red but can make the front door equally-welcoming are charcoal, gray, teal, blue-green, black, yellow & gold, navy-blue, and various shades of green.
New ParagraphThe goal when choosing the home's colors should be to make it attractive to the greatest number of prospective buyers. The surest way to do this is by choosing neutral colors. Neutral colors have almost universal appeal. They are mild and make the home feel bright and spacious. They will also accommodate a buyer's décor, which makes it easy for buyers to visualize themselves living in the home.
Some people think neutrals are boring, but they don’t have to be if the color palette is chosen carefully. Examples of great neutrals to use when staging a home are grays, cream, beige, green-tinted colors, and shades of yellow and barley.
After the home has been neutralized to accept any type of décor, the next step is to add color accents to give it some character. While using neutrals helps to focus the buyer's attention on the home's features, accent colors work differently.
Accent colors add vibrancy and a bit of fun to the neutral color palette. But even though accent colors allow for more creativity than neutrals, they also pose a greater danger of inducing a negative response.
Infusing neutrals into wall-art & décor, flowers, lamps, throw pillows and bedding is a less-risky way of adding accent colors. Here are some examples of how to use accents: blue or purple accent for yellow walls, red or yellow accent for blue walls, red, yellow or orange accents for green-tinted neutrals, and purple accent for children's rooms.
This is an extension of using accent colors to make the room more inviting, Colorful art, plants, and flowers add a spark of life to a room that makes it more welcoming. Décor is a good way to sneak a small amount of colors into the design which buyers would have found unpleasant in large quantities.
For instance, while buyers may react negatively to a bright-red wall, they may gush over a bouquet of well-arranged red flowers on the dining room table. The key here is to employ subtlety when introducing color elements that elicit a strong reaction.
Finally, whatever colors are used for the home, it is always important to think of how easy the color will be to photograph. Red is a difficult color to capture with a digital camera. This is something to bear in mind.
